Vlog Day 2 Topic Announced

Date: Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Create and post a video (no longer than 5 minutes) with your response to the following:

Show us what you love.

It can be people, a person, a recipe, a location, a band, a piece of art, anything you love!

Post the video on your blog on the 18th. There will be a new forum thread (at 20sb) on that day for you to post a link to your entry. Then on Thursday we'll round up all the participants and link to them on the 20SB blog.

When you upload your video, tag it with "20sb".
If you upload with vimeo, add it to the vimeo 20sb group.
If you upload with youtube, add it to the youtube group (which will be created soon)

December carnival topic

It is time for the December Blog Carnival and we want to hear from you!

So, choose your topic and submit your post for the Holiday Carnival by December 21.

You can choose any of the following three topics:

- A wishlist of things you want that are free
- A wishlist of 5 items, one for each sense (that's an item for sight, one for smell, etc)

Blog Swap Annoucement

Back by popular demand, it's time for Blog Swap 3.

What is a Blog Swap?

A Blog Swap is where you partner up with someone you may or may no know and you post on their blog. They return the favor by posting on your blog. For this Blog Swap, everyone will be paired up at random and send their posts to their partners on the swap date.

Why should I Swap?

There are millions if not billions of reasons to Swap ... here are a few of them:

20SB Vlog Day

In just a few weeks, on Wednesday the 22nd of October, 20sb is going to hold it's first ever VLOG DAY!

A vlog is a video blog entry. Most 20sb members never post in video format, so this might be just the challenge you need to get your exploring a new medium of blogging.

Just film yourself answering the following questions:

1. If you wrote an autobiography of your life in your 20s so far, what would the first chapter be called? What would the last chapter be called?
2. Give us a tour... of anything! Your kitchen, your running route, your drawer full of mismatched socks, your favourite bar... anything goes. Just a guided tour.
3. Tell us a story that is unique to you. It can be short or long, it can have happened today or when you were little. It has to be true and original.

Then post the video to your blog on October 22nd. (If you're wondering where you host the video file, I suggest vimeo or lots of people like youtube) Post a link to your blog here in the comments, and I'll round up a roll all the participants. 

If you're an anonymous blogger, you are still more than welcome to participate- but to keep your anonymity, you'll have to be a little more creative.

Contests, Awards, Admin Positions

First and foremost, I'm really super sorry about the delay in the header contest. We've decided on the top 8, and the polls should be open this weekend or sometime coming up soon. I promise!

Second: the 20sb awards! Originally we had decided we'd have them every 8 months (a compromise between once and twice a year) which would mean that the 2nd award round would be this Sept/Oct. (It's a two month process, remember from last time?). If we want to have the awards in Sept, that's cool! The next steps (deciding on categories and the voting process) would start immediately and the winner would be announced by Halloween. OR, do we want to make it an annual thing and have the awards in January like last year.

Third: This place is growing like mad. Spreading like a virus... a good virus. However, admin is having trouble keeping up with all the membership applications! So we're looking for more people to add to the admin team to help approve new members. Got some time on your hands? Let me know!

Header Contest

If you've been looking for a way to contribute to 20sb, then this is it!

We need a new header. The current green and black one is a ning default and since we're over a year old, it's time for us to grow.

Admin will narrow entries down to the top 3, and then open the polls to the members. Entries should be posted in the 20sb Header Contest Flickr Group. Final date for submissions: August 3rd.

The winner will get something... I'm not sure what. What do you think the winner should get? (Note: we have no money)

Admin Position Open: Carnival Editor

Alright crew,

There are over 1000 of us now, which is pretty insane. I'm sure you'll believe that there is a TONNE of background admin going on, but would you believe that it is being done by a mere trio?

I'm looking for somebody to take over as official editor of the 20SB Carnival. Every future edition will still be published on the 20SB blog.

Job duties include:
- encouraging submissions
- making sure all submissions are written by 20sb members
- being a point of contact for anybody with carnival questions
- choosing the best submissions for each carnival edition
- organising excerpts, and formatting each edition
- posting each edition!

Sort of sounds like a lot, but it each cycle takes a month.

Rewards:
- everybody's gratitude (right guys?)
- virtual high fives
